Testing Out Comments Again

Posted December 18th, 2005 | View Comments

Thanks to the other John L. over at Uneasy Rhetoric (if you’re keeping score — he’s the good one, I’m the evil twin), I’ve located some anti-spam software for my comments. I’ll work on installing that next, but I needed to call your attention to the fact that comments are back up in case you were itching to say something. Also, I wanted a post I could comment to with test posts without looking like I was my only friend.

Let’s see if our vanilla comments mechanism without spam protection is working. during this short window till I turn the plugins on I’m vulnerable to spammers again.

Yuck. That thought reminds me of the bug scene last night in King Kong.

By the way, go see that movie.

Now I’m trying out the comments with SK2 and bad-behavior both enabled. Spammers should be all be afraid. Be very afraid.

Now I’m trying it out w/o being logged in. Seems OK. Using a hotmail account — will see if that raises a flag or what; I doubt it will all by itself.

All that remains now is to see if any spam makes it through.

In one of the ironies of our time, I’ve been hit with three spams today that got through my system. It’s the first I’ve seen in weeks though.

Wow — sorry to be the guy to bring you bad luck in a famous last words way.

Welll, if it’s three SPAMs per day once in a blue moon, I still consider that successful. I was getting 2-3 every day for awhile there.

It’s nice to be able to put the comments back up in any case, so if I have to throw more plugins at it myself I’ll share as well.

[...] Well, it appears we have some good news for Sacramento home owners, and bad news for Dr. Lee, who’s waiting to stop renting, and the naysayers at Sacramento Land(ing), who are hoping to be those who told you so when we all go to hell in a handbasket. [...]
