Fifteen Minutes of Fame – Pundit Ketchup

Posted February 10th, 2007 | View Comments

I enjoyed fifteen seconds of fame among my colleagues recently thanks to the benevolent auspices of The Tomato, real estate’s best marketing blog.

I wanted to thank everyone who put up with my heterodox ideas there, especially Jonathan Greene, author of the Tampa Real Estate Blog: Real Opinionated, who had to put up with me twice, Teresa Boardman, resident Eskimo of the frigid tundra of St. Paul, Minnesota, Ben Kakimoto, who blogs about condos in Seattle, Maureen Francis, who’s putting my production to shame in Oakland County, Jonathan Dalton, who’s got his capitalist head on straight in Phoenix, Joe Zekas, expert on Chicago neighborhoods, Marty Van Diest, who unlike Teresa services the temperate Wasilla, Alaska, just a stone’s throw north of Anchorage, assuming you can chuck a stone about fifty miles, and who also chimed in recently with some helpful advice about the transaction management software I’m considering, and I owe him a comment there.

And if I missed thanking anyone, I’m very sorry, but it’s 1:15AM here in the Big Tomato. Do you know where your buyers are?

It was truly a pleasure. You’re place on the Vine is secure.

  • http://realopinionated.blogspot.com Jonathan Greene

I’m pretty sure my buyers are doing belly shots off of a hot stripper in Ybor City. Just a guess though….

Great blog. Way to stir up the mud!

Thank you, John, for your piece about “The 7 myths about real estate blogging” . With rare exceptions, and you are one, most blogs are irrelevant and, pardon me, sometimes boringly rambling, perhaps even for the search engines. But I am sure they serve some, or someone’s, purpose. With all this technology, if I am not careful I spend the best of my waking hours in front of a screen instead of looking for real life buyers and sellers.
    Best regards.

my buyers are closing and one a little confused…loved the discussion about the discussion, I have been thinking about all the made up words that have been around for a while, lets just put a new spin on things, more things change, the more they remain the same?

Once again, a trip to my dictionary is needed as John expands my vocabulary. I gathered the gist on my own, but in case anyone else needs it, here goes:

    heterodox \HET-uh-ruh-doks\, adjective:
    1. Contrary to or differing from some acknowledged standard, especially in church doctrine or dogma; unorthodox.
    2. Holding unorthodox opinions or doctrines.

Thank you to my college linguistics prof for teaching me about word origins.

Wow, looks like we made it to eighteen seconds of fame! Thanks everyone.

Jonathan and Terry, since we’re talking about our buyers out loud, let me throw in my two cents. My business has traditionally been buyer-centric, though I’ve worked with many sellers as well into the mix. I enjoy my buyers almost always, and try to do a fantastic job for them even if I don’t enjoy them, which is the exception. I know, that sounds like an ad instead of the real world, but it’s true. Naturally I’m inclined to like them — their confidence in me pays my bills. And if any buyers are reading this who need a good Broker to help you, I would be honored to have the opportunity to try to earn your business.

Marisa, thank you for your kind words. On the other hand, to give the folks who (rightly so) successfully critiqued my article on the grounds that they really do connect with clients on their blog, believe me, I wish my blog were more like theirs, in whatever crucial way matters. I connect with LOTS of buyers and sellers via my web site more generally, but I haven’t been very good at creating more of a dialog with my buyers on my blog. That’s a goal for this year. Maybe I should buy a few hours of Jim Cronin. :)

Maureen, I’m going to make you vice president in charge of Lockwood translation. You should see Deborah in Santa Cruz’s blog — she throws out a few “Calvanisms” and other stuff from time to time as well. If we both hire you to translate, do we get a group rate?

  • http://www.mioaklandcounty.com Maureen Francis

Gosh John, I think I am too busy to take on the translation work, but I am humbled. And here I thought that Ukrainian was the only language that I could translate and get paid for it.. Now I will add Lockwoodian English to my list of languages. I wonder if there is a place for that on Realtor.com’s list of languages?

  • http://www.stpaulrealestateblog.com Teresa Boardman

John, even though you are wrong most of the time I really enjoy reading you. Heckling you is a great deal of fun as well. i hope you can remian famous for at least 20 min. :)

Teresa, I agree with you. In fact I’m so wrong that one of my agents called me yesterday to thank me for letting her work for me, and another one called to tell me what a great week she was having.

Most of the time? You’re right, that’s insufficient. I should make it my goal to be this wrong systematically!

    John,

    Special price for you!

Hope to have you back for another 15 mins.

Thank you very much John! I very much enjoy reading.
