Public Demands New Bubble To Invest In

Well, if you’re tired of the bad news in the Housing Market — can you say Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae taxpayer bailout — following on the heels of the earlier bad news in the Tech sector, and living in a sort of grim Coca-Cola harmony with bad news of Global Warming, gas prices, and whatever else we’re scared witless about this week, you might enjoy The Onion’s recent parody, “Recession-Plagued Nation Demands New Bubble To Invest In”:

“What America needs right now is not more talk and long-term strategy, but a concrete way to create more imaginary wealth in the very immediate future,” said Thomas Jenkins, CFO of the Boston-area Jenkins Financial Group, a bubble-based investment firm. “We are in a crisis, and that crisis demands an unviable short-term solution.”

    This seems to be the American way… live above your means via bubble. If you can create serial bubbles, you can keep the illusion and debt-wealth lifestyle alive. This time, however, it ain’t gonna happen. The music has stopped. Find a chair, get you money out of the stock market, stock up on non-perishables, and prepare for the worst.

    Wow — stock up on non-perishables? Really? Should we be wearing tin foil hats, too, or do you think that’s over the top? :)
