The combination of local railroad access and a rich granite quarry made
Rocklin a major exporter of granite in the 1860s -- indeed, the California
State Capital consists by and large of Rocklin granite. These and other aspects
of Rocklin's rich history are preserved by the very active Rocklin
Historical Society. In addition to making many historical essays of Rocklin
available on their web site, the society sponsors the Rocklin History Museum.
Today, with an estimated population of 43,607 in 2003, Rocklin is one of the
larger cities in Placer County. It is home to Sierra
College, one of the top community colleges in California. Rocklin has a
great deal to offer, including affordable homes compared to other areas in
Placer County and a fine public school system.
