California State Fair - Send In the Clones
Hi -- John again guest blogging. Our senior thing doer, Kathy, is out doing yet another thing, which I'll let her tell you about. Meantime let me refer you to her entries about Water World and the California State Fair, and tell you just briefly that we had the pleasure of going there today on some combination tickets that Kathy got from work. What a great day!
In fairly short order, I'd fulfilled my fair-day goal of getting out to pet a clone. If you haven't read about Ditto and Dot yet, they're two calves cloned from a cow named Daisy at UC Davis, by Cindy Batchelder, a Doctoral student there. (If there's a better reason to go all the way the heck through graduate school than to get to do fun things like cloning your own cows, I sure can't think of it).
We eventually found them outside the main livestock building, guided by another UC Davis student, and I got to pet Ditto, who was the sweetest, friendliest calf you'd ever want to meet. Dot was taking a nap, and I hated to wake her once my "I petted a clone today" bragging rights were secure.
Well anyway, Doctor-to-be Batchelder, great job! And good luck to you, Ditto and Dot! Grow up strong and determined like your mom, who never took any bull from anyone.
